Craig Lawson was named the Head Cross Country Coach in March of 2019. In his first three seasons with the program, he has coached four individual Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Cross Country Runners of the Year, 10 All-Region runners, and nineteen Top-10 finishers at the conference meet.
In 2019, Lawson’s top men’s runner won the individual GCAA Championship, was named GCAA Runner of the Year, and competed at the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Championship before moving on to the University of West Georgia after his freshman season. In 2020, Lawson’s top male and female runners won the individual GCAA Championship and were named GCAA Runners of the Year in their freshman seasons. Both would go on to compete at NJCAA nationals. Additionally, the 2020 men’s team won the overall GCAA Region 17 Championship and went from being unranked to finishing the national meet as the NJCAA’s 16th ranked Division I Cross Country program. This was the first time in school history that the program has been ranked nationally.
Coach Lawson is in his eighth year with CGTC Athletics, and has previously served as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach, Head Statistician for men’s and women’s basketball, Head of Game Day Operations, and Head of Strength and Conditioning.
Lawson was a two-year varsity football letterman at Shorter University during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, and also lettered at the University of Georgia in 2008-2009. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a concentration in Sport Management from the University of Georgia in 2009, and in 2010 he earned his Master of Science from UGA in the same field.
