Christian Torres Reaches 500 Career Points at CGTC

Macon, GA – Central Georgia Technical College (CGTC) sophomore Christian Torres has reached a significant milestone in his basketball career, scoring his 500th point during a game on January 25,2025. A native of Lula, GA, Torres has made his mark as a leader for the Titans, both on and off the court.

Torres, a guard for the Titans, is currently studying Engineering Technology. He intends to transfer to a four-year university for his Aerospace degree after CGTC. He graduated from East Hall High School before joining CGTC for his collegiate basketball career.

Over the past two seasons, Torres has consistently delivered impressive performances. During the 2023-2024 season, Torres started in 27 out of 30 games for the Titans, scoring a total of 325 points. His season stats also include 220 rebounds, 74 assists, and 27 steals.

In the 2024-2025 season, Torres has continued to shine. In the 13 games played so far, he has started in 10 games and contributed with 181 total points, 119 rebounds, 31 assists, 15 steals.

Torres’ impact extends beyond his athleticism and scoring ability. He was recognized for his academic excellence by earning a spot on the 2023-2024 NJCAA All-Academic Second Team, with a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99.

When reflecting on his journey at CGTC and this remarkable achievement, Torres shared:

“When everything seems to be going against you, remember that the airplane takes off against the wind, not with it,” Torres said, quoting Henry Ford. “I never imagined attending a junior college. I always viewed it as a last resort. I’ve always had great grades, but being heavily under-recruited, I thought I was destined for a different path.”

Torres quotes on his CGTC experience in saying “I’m incredibly grateful that I chose Central Georgia Technical College. It’s been a truly welcoming experience, and I was completely wrong about the stereotype of junior colleges. The people here are intelligent, driven, and ready to embark on their careers. Many of them have the potential to change the world one day, and I’ve enjoyed my time here so far.”

After the game Torres was asked how he felt after knowing now that he had hit his 500th point in his CGTC career.

“I was surprised when I reached 500 points—I didn’t even know I was close. I’m so grateful for my teammates for passing me the ball and for my coach for putting me in positions to score and

trusting me. But all the credit goes to my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He has given me the abilities and energy to go hard at every game and practice, and without Him, I don’t know where I would be.”

Torres is the seventh player in CGTC history to achieve this milestone. With an average of 14 points per game this season and 13 games remaining, he has the potential to reach a career total of 688 points.

Torres has exemplified what it means to "Lead the Charge" for the CGTC Titans. His dedication to both his sport and his studies makes him a standout role model for his peers.

On behalf of the CGTC Athletic Department, we would like to congratulate Christian Torres on reaching this incredible career milestone. We look forward to his continued success as he pushes toward greater accomplishments.
