Warner Robins, Ga. - In their third match-up in five days, the Central Georgia Tech Lady Titans (1-3,1-2 GCAA) loss 72-64 to Albany Technical College Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Titans struggled early on the offensive end, committing four consecutive turnovers to start the game. Unable to find their flow, the team was held scoreless through the first 2:58 of the first quarter.
Sophomore Hayleigh Ross provided a much-needed spark for the Lady Titans, scoring six points in the first quarter to give the team a two-point lead.
Shooting 2 of 13 (15.4%) from the field, the Lady Titans' lead quickly diminished in the second quarter.
Making defensive adjustments to start the third quarter, the Lady Titans came out in a full court press against Albany Tech. Forcing their opponent to make turnovers, the Lady Titans converted steals into scores.
Finding their touch in the third quarter, Avanna Preston and Ross knocked down timely three-point baskets to give the team a three-point lead. Ross' 10 points in the quarter kept the game in reach for the Lady Titans.
Unfortunately, turnovers and missed field goals were the Achilles heel of the Lady Titans in the fourth quarter. The team's inability to score late in the period allowed Albany Tech to close the final 1:15 of the game on a 9-0 run.
The Lady Titans shot 20 of 61 from the field (32.8%) and 18 of 41 (43.9%) from the free throw line.
Hayleigh Ross led all scorers with 18 points. Ross also added five rebounds, one assist, and two steals. Tamira Anderson also scored double figures with 10 points, two rebounds, one assist, and five steals. Juanisha Black was solid on the boards pulling down seven rebounds.
The Lady Titans continue conference play against South Georgia Technical College on Tuesday, February 9 in Americus, GA. Game time is slated for 5:30 p.m.
