Lady Titans Suffer Second Loss to South Georgia Tech

Mikyla Woods draws several South Georgia Tech defenders

Macon, GA – The CGTC Lady Titans (1-5,1-4) came up short Thursday evening in 70-61 loss to No. 4 South Georgia Technical College (10-0,5-0).

Attempting to bounce back from their loss earlier in the week, the Lady Titans started the game in attack mode. Aggressive on both ends of the court, CGTC's full-court press of South GA Tech yielded dividends in the first half, forcing the Lady Jets to commit costly turnovers.

The Lady Titans were able to convert South Georgia Tech's turnovers into a few layups and trips to the charity stripe.

Struggling to match their intensity from the first half, CGTC struggled to get the ball through the rim in the third quarter. The team shot 7 of 25 (28%) from the field in the period.

Down seven halfway through the fourth quarter, Avanna Preston attempted to spark a late comeback as she completed an unconventional 3-point play at the free throw line to bring the Lady Titans within four points.

Unfortunately, late turnovers and missed free throws down the stretch put the game out of reach for the Lady Titans.

Tamira Anderson scored a game-high 16 points with five rebounds, two assists, two steals, and one block. Hayleigh Ross and Mikyla Woods also scored double digits for the Lady Titans. Ross finished with 12 points, four rebounds, two assists, three steals, and one block, while Woods added 11 points and one assist.

Just shy of a double-double, Juanisha Black finished with 7 points and 10 rebounds.

The Titans will face South Georgia Tech for the third and final time during the regular season on Saturday, February 13 in Americus. Game time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
