Lady Titans Advance to GCAA Conference Semifinals

Albany, GA – In a win or go home matchup, the CGTC Lady Titans defeated Albany Technical College 70-57 in the 2021 Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association (GCAA) Division I women's basketball quarterfinals on Tuesday evening.

Seeking to nullify their 1-2 regular season series record against Albany Tech, the Lady Titans were eager to take the court in the contest.

Playing to their strengths, the Lady Titans started the game with an aggressive, fast-paced offense. Guards Hayleigh Ross and Avanna Preston knocked down big 3-point baskets for the Lady Titans, while Juanisha Black was able to sink points in the paint. 

With a balanced offensive attack in the first half, the Lady Titans took a 30-23 lead into halftime.

Picking up their pace after the break, Albany Tech was able to cut into the Lady Titans' lead and eventually tied the game in the third quarter.

Determined to extend their season, the Lady Titans made some key defensive stops that led to transition baskets on the other end.

Getting to the free throw line late in the competition, the Lady Titans were able to secure the win shooting 10 of 14 (71.4%) from the charity stripe.

Hayleigh Ross led all scorers with 20 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals.

Tamira Anderson and Avanna Preston also scored double-figures for the Lady Titans. Anderson finished the game with 18 points, three rebounds, two assists, and three steals, while Preston added 13 points, seven rebounds, three assists, and one steal.

With the victory, the Lady Titans advance to the GCAA semifinals and will face #1 Georgia Highlands College on Friday, April 2 at 6:00 p.m. As the regular season champions, Georgia Highlands will host the GCAA semifinals and final games in Rome, GA. The semifinals and final games will be streamed live online by JockJive Sports.
